7 TIPS FOR EXTENDING THE LIFE OF YOUR CARPET

Tip #1: Vacuum regularly. 
You should vacuum traffic areas in your home 2-3 times a week and at least once a week in all other carpeted areas of your home.  If dirt stays in your carpet, it acts as sand paper which damages the carpet fibers, giving it a dull look.  It will cause your carpets to wear much faster.

Tip #2: Place a walk off mat at all entrances. 
This will help prevent you from tracking in outside debris and it will eliminate a large amount of dirt from your shoes. 

Tip #3: Do not use soap-based cleaning products. 
Many of the products you can purchase at local stores are soap based.  They clean fine, but do not aid in keeping your carpets clean.  A residue is left behind and it attracts dirt like a magnet, so you will start to notice your carpets getting dirty faster.

Tip #4: Clean up spills immediately. 
Some spills that are not cleaned up immediately have the chance of settling in permanently, or some can actually change the color of your carpet.  The best way to clean up a spill is to blot it with water and a cotton terry cloth.  Be sure not to scrub the area, because it may cause the carpet fibers to fray.

Tip #5: Replace air filters regularly. 
This helps remove dust particles from the air that will otherwise settle in the carpet.  If possible, use an air cleaner in all areas of your home, and consider getting your ducts cleaned.

Tip #6: Have your carpet professionally cleaned regularly. 
In traffic areas, you should have them cleaned once every 3 months and in all other areas, at least once every 6 months.  Vacuuming often is highly recommended, but it does not remove soil that is attached to the carpet fibers.

Tip #7: Ask for a carpet protector. 
It is a great barrier between carpet and dirt.  It will keep your carpets cleaner longer and will help in extending the life of your carpet.
